Blooms of the Missing: First Look

Blooms of the Missing is an adventure kit (for the 5th edition of the world’s most popular tabletop RPG) in progress set within the depths of an ancient swamp. Characters tangle with the intrigue of a string of disappearances and strange occurrences. The kit will present gamemasters with all the situations, locations, and people needed to lead a party through the mysteries of the area. A working draft of a pivotal dungeon, the Halibour Bastion, is available now as a first look at this future release.
The Blackhill Swamp is a long neglected border region that neither kingdom values. A powerful river winds its way across ancient mangrove forests, inundating the area. Dangerous creatures lurk in the darkness, making their homes in this uninviting landscape. While the occasional fisher or shipman goes missing, the number has suddenly risen, leaving the locals in fear of the shadows. Strange occurrences compound the unease of the hardy residents. These disappearances have a sinister cause, unchecked it could lead to a war across the kingdom.
In the adventure kit format, the book provides gamemasters with a set of antagonists, situations, and locations. Rather than string this together into a strict linear story, the kit allows a gamemaster to build the adventure to their preference and party. The dungeons are the most explicit portions of the adventure, but even those allow freedom with challenge rating and approach. To see what a finished kit can look like, check out Light of Winter to see a small slice of what Blooms of the Missing will offer.
While Blooms of the Missing is still being written, a key location is complete. The Halibour Bastion is the first dungeon designed for this adventure kit. Home to a major faction within the swamp, the bastion is a linchpin to nefarious plans hatching in the murky waters. Players beware, the working draft over on Itch.io gives you a look at the core problems within Blackhill Swamp and contains spoilers for the adventure’s mysteries.
Keep a look out for future previews from Blooms of the Missing.
